Karl is someone who really brings home the concept of the Art and Science of winemaking. In college, he studied Biochemistry and Genetics, but instead of going into a field like pharmaceuticals, he found his passion in winemaking. At Stoller, he combines his knowledge of chemistry with what he has learned working in the vineyard, understanding the very grapes he uses to make his wines.
We have had the pleasure of tasting many of the wines Karl makes, and we can attest to the fact that they are acid-driven, food friendly wines that are both accessible and complex.
One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation with Karl was how the changes in climate are forcing him and other winemakers to make different decisions - like when to harvest the grapes. Each year becomes a new challenge to make both consistent wines and great wines.
If you are curious about how wines are made, or how winemakers grapple with all of the decisions that go into each vintage, you will find this episode very compelling. We hope you join us.
You can also hear about the 30th anniversary celebration that Stoller Family Estate is holding this year.
