WTF is Pouilly Fumé? And How Does It Compare to Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc?

Pouilly-Fumé is a beautiful wine made from Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley in France. If the only Sauv Blanc you have ever had is from the US or New Zealand, we really think you need to go back to the roots (pun intended) of this amazing wine, and one of those roots is Pouilly-Fumé.

Named after the place and not the grapes, which can be confusing in French and other European wines, Pouilly-Fumé is a crisp, acidic, and sometimes smokey tasting wine. Afterall, Fumé means smoke.

And in this episode, we tackle the age-old question when it comes to wine - can you actually taste the difference between a fancy wine and a cheap wine? We think you can, and the answer may surprise you as we compare these wines with good old Barefoot wine.

Wines reviewed in this episode: 2021 Domaine Francis Blanchet Pouilly Fumé Cuvée Silice, 2020 Domaine Cailbourdin Pouilly-Fumé Les Cris, and Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc.
