Crémant de Limoux: The Crémant from the Birthplace of Sparkling Wine!
Thanksgiving is coming, and sparkling wine should be on your table. But what sparkling wine should you serve? We think Crémant de Limoux is a great option. What the hell is Crémant de Limoux you ask? Well, we’re happy to answer your query. Let’s start here. Did you know that Limoux France is where sparkling wine started?!? That’s right. Not in Champagne! Despite this long history of sparkling wine making in Limoux, Crémant de Limoux is a relatively new wine, officially recognized in 1990, to address the changing tastes of wine drinkers who preferred crisper wines made from Chardonnay rather than the traditional Mauzac grape of Limoux. In fact, in the early 90’s there was nearly a battle to the death between the more traditional Blanquette de Limoux and Crémant de Limoux, and the expectation was that only one would make it. But both survive today. What does this have to do with Thanksgiving? Nothing! Back to Crémant de Limoux. You may not know this, but sparkling wine is actually great to serve throughout the Thanksgiving meal, and Crémant de Limoux is a fantastic option because it is food friendly enough to go with everything from turkey to cranberry sauce to gravy, and even mac and cheese.
