In our latest Italian Wine Adventure, we head to the center of Italy to uncork an under-valued white wine called Orvieto Classico.
Orvieto is made of a blend of grapes, and has to be comprised of at least 60% Grechetto and Trebbiano Toscano. However, because it is a blend, the taste and experience of the wine can be quite different depending on the different grapes used and the percentages of those grapes in the blend.
In fact, in this episode we found that one of the wines would be perfect for a Chardonnay lover, while another would be great for someone who loves a good summer sipper by the pool, and is more reminiscent of Pinot Grigio.
We talk about what foods would pair well with this wine, and overall, this is a great wine to pair with fish, sharp cheese, salty foods, and foods with lots of garlic.
We love going on these Italian Wine Adventures because we learn so much about the different kinds of wines that are available - so don’t get stuck in that Chardonnay rut!
Wines reviewed in this episode: 2021 Ruffino Orvieto Classico, 2022 Bellini Orvieto Classico, and 2021 Roio Orvieto Classico
